I have restocked many types of old guns. I have experience restocking: single shot rifles, shotguns, lever guns, and many types of bolt action rifles. No matter what material I am using, the goal is always the same, which is to do outstanding quality work that will hold up under repeated use.
There’s nothing more gratifying than rebuilding an old “clunker” into a beautifully restocked work of art. I put a lot of time and effort into achieving a perfect wood to metal fit and beautiful hand rubbed oil finish. It takes even more time to do a truly outstanding job on the fit and finish, but for me, that’s what it’s all about. I will often put 20-30 coats of finish on a piece before checkering it. The perfect compliment to a restocking job is using a rust blue finish on the metal. Again, it takes a lot longer to do than a hot blue finish, but the final product is very beautiful and durable. Rust bluing one project is usually a two day, 20 hour project.

Shotguns
If you are looking to redo an old stock on your favorite shotgun or build you a new one from scratch. Bauder's Custom Guns can do it all. Because I build a pattern blank for all of my wood stock projects, you can rest assured that you will get exactly what you want to shoot well with your shotgun. I can work off of an existing stock that you know works, or I can build you one from the ground floor, with it exactly configured to your body and eye. Patterning your shotgun and fitting it to you is standard procedure. I bird hunt for two months per year out west, and shoot a lot of "clays" during the rest of the year, so I know what it takes to build a durable, beautiful, functional stock on a shotgun. I am currently stocking a Beretta 28 o/u in Turkish Walnut that will make a very beautiful bird and clays gun.

VARMINT RIFLES
Varmint rifle specs: Above are some pics of my latest varmint rifle project, the 20 VARTARG. I used an H.S. Precision stock (repeater) and reconfigured it into single shot- for a left hander. It is configured left bolt, left port using a Stiller Predator action. The barrel is a Lilja Remington Varmint taper with Tubb lug. I used a jewel trigger set for 20 oz. The bolt flutes spiral to the left, as does the flutes on the barrel so they match, which is a nice touch. This is a mild recoil gun with a lot of performance. Everything that I shot in it put them in their respective "one hole groups." (see pic-two groups, two bullet weights). The scope is a Leupold 4.5-15 with A/0 and 1/4 dot reticle. It's a dog killing machine that uses a mere 19 grains of powder, shoots 32, 35 and 40 bullets fantastic. I was able to shoot prairie dogs in Montana this May from 100 to 300 with no elevation click adjustments needed. I used .221 fireball case and necked them down to 20 cal. All components are easily acquired. The 20 VARTARG is a legitimate 200-500 varmint gun that is a joy to shoot.
